felt door /

this door, felt door, is an example of how a sound absorbing material with dampening properties can be utilized in product design.
it stands out for three key qualities /

acoustic performance
aesthetic appeal
functionality

in this way, it effectively integrates an acoustic panel into an essential element of any space — a door.

the design follows the principle of form following function — with the handle seamlessly integrated into the overall wooden frame that retains the sound absorbing material.

additionally, the door showcases all its materials, making them an integral part of the design and embracing an honest approach that reveals the construction, joints, and all components.

the acoustic surface in this prototype is treated with residual ink from the printing industry
and sealed with heat. this process enables endless color combinations when paired with
a linseed oil finish on the wooden frame — offering multiple unique expressions and
design variations making it adaptable to different environments.

this showcased door is the first prototype made out of pine wood.
however, felt door is designed with the intention of using douglas fir
combined with an acoustic material. furthermore, felt door is designed symmetrically,
allowing it to function as a double door
or even be repeated several times to cover a large surface.
